How to fix Mac bluetooth audio quality

Anyone who’s tried to use a decent pair of bluetooth headphones with a Mac knows that it sucks the big one. In spite of Apple’s affiliations with the music industry it sounds like listening to an FM radio that you made yourself. In fact you could do better. This simple command (below) has resolved the issue for me and now I can enjoy beautiful music from my laptop whilst I work.

sudo defaults write com.apple.BluetoothAudioAgent "Apple Bitpool Min (editable)" 40

  1. It would have been nice if you had explained *exactly* how BT audio sucks and *exactly* what this does and how it fixes it.

  2. Hi Mac Guy,

Bluetooth audio was sounding like a 8 bit version, not dissimilar to listening to a portable radio in the 80s. All high tones and low resolution.
I do not know exactly what this command does, I found it online and endeavoured to make it easier to find thru resharing on my own site.
I know that the result is now pleasant, high quality audio over my bluetooth headphones.

    Thanks
    Mike
